Dollars Per Hour Chapter 15

    “Hi, and thank you for calling SpectraCom. My name is Rubin. Can I have your ten-digit phone number, please?”

   “716 555 2029.”

    “And please hold while I access your account. All right, thank you for holding. Who am I speaking with right now?”

    “Vincent Calhoun.”

    “Thank you, Mr. Calhoun. What can I do for you today?”

    “You see the credit on my account?”

    “Yes sir, there is a credit balance on your cancelled account of $32.51. What can I do for you today?”

    “I want that amount sent to me.”

    “You’re looking for a refund?”

    “Yes.”

    “Looking through your account, sir, I’m showing that you didn’t make a single payment to your account. This credit balance resulted from credits we issued to you.”

    “Yes, I know, and I want it sent to me.”

    “Well, sir, it is not SpectraCom’s policy to issue refunds on accounts to which no payments have been made.”

    “But I have a credit balance.”

    “That we gave you. It’s not a refund if you didn’t pay it.”

    “How else am I going to use it?”

    “Those credits would have to be used on service. With your account cancelled, they are gone.”

    “So send them to me.”

    “I can’t do that.”

    “Why not?”

    “Because you didn’t pay it.”

    “So?”

    “So, no pay, no refund.”

    “But I want it.”

    “Well you aren’t going to get it.”

    “Let me speak to your supervisor! They will give it to me!”
