Two Winters Past

Scene 3
EXT. VALLEY. MORNING

Wide angle, open field spread across a rolling hill. Grass is tall and thick, but cut into square parcels by roads, sinking fences, and the occasional line of apple trees. Zoom out through COLE, ZACH, JIMMY, and 2 COOLEYS. All wear thick beards. COLE and JIMMY are in their 20's, ZACH is at least 40, but the skin of his face is thick and ruddy. COLE is looking through binoculars down the road.

ZACH: It a person?

COLE: I think so.

ZACH: Should make sure.

COLE: Don’t have time. Remmy needs these bloodsuckers an hour ago.

ZACH: Your father want us to make sure that ain’t no scouts.

COLE puts away binoculars.

COLE: You pulling rank?

ZACH bows.

ZACH: (Sarcasm) I wouldn’t question you, Prince Cole, Sir. You my brother’s boy, and he my king. I am well aware that ain’t either of us shit after both our brothers. Everyone cares about Remmy.

COLE: And my father.

ZACH: Your father don’t like to be called king. Remmy do. (Gestures COOLEYS) And these guys. Elijah your king?

COOLEY 1: Yes, Sir.

ZACH: When Remmy king, he going to be looking at us to prove our loyalty.

COLE: You’re treading very close to treason.

ZACH holds up his hands.

ZACH: Prince Cole, I am simply advising that the lone stranger walking this way may be coming from Turner. If Turner finds out ‘xactly what our secret weapon is, he going to send his boys stomping up to shoot everything he can. In our best interest to have a look.

COLE hesitates.

COLE: (to COOLEY 1&2) Go get him. He comes back here alive.

COOLEY 1: Yes, sir.

ZACH: That’s 'Yer Majesty.'

COLE: Shut your face.

FADE TO BLACK
