SCENE ELEVEN
ROLAND is sitting on STELLA’S couch. The apartment is a mess. He is zombiefied. STELLA enters. It takes him a while to register that STELLA is in the room.
STELLA
Get up. Get up! Goddamnit, look at this place. You sick pig! You lie around here while I make money, make connections, further my ART and you you waste my time. GET UP. Clean something, do something, remind me of why I let you in. Give me something other than blood.
What is the matter with you?
Nevermind! You don’t understand sympathy, you never will and I’m tired of trying to understand.
ROLAND
How did I get trapped in here with you?
STELLA
You begged me, you begged.
ROLAND
I don’t remember that.
STELLA
You have a pretty selective memory.
ROLAND
It’s that medicine. It’s fucking with me.
STELLA
You needed to stop. I needed to stop.
ROLAND
I’m not blaming you.
STELLA
Right.
ROLAND
It’s a cheap clinic, they just keep giving me these pills, samples, I take them. And now I can’t think, I can’t remember. There’s huge gaps in my memory, not like before, little things now, I can’t remember if I ate, I don’t eat, I fall over, I don’t know why, I’m in the shower and I don’t know if I just got in and I feel grit dirty…
STELLA
You have to take them, Roland. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, but we couldn’t continue doing what we were doing. We’d get caught.
ROLAND
(Half screamed) Ahhhhhh! (Quiet) You love me.
STELLA
Yes.
.
.
So what.
ROLAND
I took those pills for you.
I want to change because you said so.
But I’ll never change, never really.
I remember when we met.
STELLA
Shhh.
ROLAND
You’re a plague ship.
STELLA
You’re the wind. I never would have… I never would have done…
ROLAND
You said I made your dreams come true.
STELLA
Doesn’t matter. You’ve ruined me.
