Two Winters Past

Scene 40

EXT. FOREST

VALENTINE and POPPER are walking.

VALENTINE: Why were you heading north?

POPPER: Word was New York was a little more stable. Pennsylvania was practically animals before this even started. Thought maybe I could find a vehicle, get out to Ohio, some of the less populated states and go south from there.

VALENTINE: Back to Texas?

POPPER: I had a wife and a kid down there. I was gonna bring them with me, but all this happend. I doubt they still down there, but I got to try.

VALENTINE: Lembeks will let you go?

POPPER: Cooleys will wipe out the Lembeks and then the Cooleys wipe out themselves. I plan to be on my way before that happens.

VALENTINE: Sounds like you don’t have long to wait.

POPPER: See the bridge up ahead?

VALENTINE: I don’t see a sentry.

POPPER: He’ll be in cover.

VALENTINE: You hear that?

Something large is crashing through the underbrush. POPPER fires his gun.
