Two Winters Past

EXT. LEMBEK HOUSE. EVENING.

DOAN lays in the shelter of a few trees. CHLOE ISIS and VALENTINE kneel beside him, and POPPER stands, covering with is rifle. DOAN bleeds profusely from his shoulder.

VALENTINE, POPPER, and CHLOE ISIS are attending to DOAN, whose arm has been shot.

VALENTINE: You put on a tourny, his arm will come off for sure.

CHLOE ISIS: There isn’t much arm to save, so shut your mouth and get me a branch. Got his ribs too, must have gone through the inside. Your belts!

POPPER retrieves a large branch. VALENTINE takes off his belt, gives it to CHLOE. 

CHLOE ISIS: We don’t have long, if those monsters don’t come sniffing, the raiders will find us. We have to have this man on his feet. (Finishes tourniquet) Get him up. Come on. Doan, honey, you have to stand up. It’s going to hurt, but you need to run. Popper is going to help you. And... who are you?

VALENTINE: Valentine.

CHLOE ISIS: Val is going to help you too, okay?

POPPER lifts. DOAN screams.

VALENTINE tries to help, but DOAN wails more when he is touched.

POPPER helps DOAN. VALENTINE and CHLOE ISIS support from behind.

CHLOE ISIS: You came out of Parlor City?

VALENTINE: What makes you think that?

CHLOE ISIS: You’re not wearing fatigues.

VALENTINE: Where did you come from then?

CHLOE ISIS: Syracuse.

VALENTINE: No shit? That’s where I’m headed. 

CHLOE ISIS stops, draws a dagger. POPPER takes a few steps and stops as well.

CHLOE ISIS: Where did you get that gun?

POPPER: Chloe, now come on, he didn’t do nothing, I already asked. 

CHLOE ISIS: You know? You knew and you brought him here?

POPPER: This kid says he didn't do it?

CHLOE ISIS: What happened? Popper, what happened?

VALENTINE: You know Chris?

CHLOE ISIS: Popper, don’t say he’s dead!

VALENTINE: I’m so sorry. Our camp was overrun. Everyone scattered. Chris saved my life more than once.

CHLOE ISIS turns away.

CHLOE ISIS: He's making that up, Pop.

POPPER: I didn't tell him about you. I played dumb the whole time. I believe what he told me.

CHLOE ISIS: (sobbing) It's not true. It's not true.

VALENTINE: I'm sorry.

CHLOE ISIS: (sighs) We've got... We need to get Doan into cover. We... We can't worry about this right now.
CHLOE ISIS continues running. POPPER follows with DOAN.
