Scene 4

EXT. WOODS. NIGHT.

FRANK and JESSE separate.

Camera follows JESSE as he jumps over a ditch and crashes into the woods.

JESSE illuminates his path with his cell phone screen until he is clear of the underbrush along the road.

JESSE picks carefully through the woods, hands out in front of him to clear his path. Still he trips over roots and is hit in the face with low branches, mumbling obscenities to himself.

JESSE can no longer see the road.

In the distance, JESSE hears footsteps. He freezes.

JESSE crouches.  The footsteps get closer, moving slowly.

Jesse tries to find cover behind a tree, but makes noise in the leaf litter. The footsteps pause while he is noisy and then advance again.

INSERT: JESSE texting, “that u”.

CONTINUITY ERROR: In full-length shots, JESSE holds phone in his left hand, but on all closeups phone is held in his right hand.

MED: JESSE looking scared. Footsteps stop.

INSERT: JESSE texting. “not funny. talk to me.”

Footsteps circle around the tree.

JESSE covers the glowing screen of his phone.

Footsteps stop. They are very near.

JESSE whispers a prayer. Footsteps circle around and move off in the distance.

JESSE holds his breath. When the footsteps are gone, JESSE releases a big sigh.

JESSE’s phone rings loudly. Screen says, “frank.” Jesse fumbles to silence it. He stands up and looks around. The footsteps are returning.

JESSE runs. Footsteps run after him.
