Scene 4
EXT. ROAD. NIGHT.
FRANK is standing beside Travis’s truck, texting on his cell phone.
FRANK: Come on, you fucking idiot. You wanted to get out of here, now let’s go.
Frank sends a text... waits... no response. He sends another.
FRANK: Jesus, you fucking moron. I’m going to fucking leave you here if you don’t answer me.
INSERT: Cell phone. It rings. It rings again. It rings again.
MED: FRANK shakes the phone.
FRANK: Jesse, it’s me. Answer your fucking phone, man. I’m tired, I want to go home.
INSERT: Cell phone. It rings again.
JESSE (VO): Hey, it’s Jess. Leave a message.
FRANK hangs up the phone.
FRANK: (agitated) Jesus, Jesse, what the fuck is wrong with you? Let’s get out of these fucking woods!
FRANK puts the phone in his pocket, paces with his arms crossed.
FRANK: Fucking idiot. Fucking idiot.
Footsteps in the woods getting closer
FRANK freezes and crouches behind the truck.
FRANK peeks over the top. We see only his eyes above the bed.
WIDE: Forest edge at the side of the road. Footsteps approach.
TIGHT on FRANK’s eyes.
FRANK: Jesse?
WIDE: Treeline. We hear menacing growl.
WIDE: We see FRANK from the back, and the tail of the truck. FRANK scrambles up and darts toward camera.
TRUCK with FRANK running. He is whimpering as he runs.
FRANK: Leave me alone! Leave me the fuck alone!
PAN across treeline. We hear branches crashing and underbrush demolished, and a beastly snarl.
FRANK reaches his car. He throws open the door.
MED shot, inside car, looking up from passenger seat. FRANK gets in the car and fumbles with his jacket pocket.
CLOSEUP: FRANK.
FRANK: Come on! Come on!
FRANK pulls his keys out of his jacket pocket and starts the car.
FRANK leans on the steering wheel a moment, panting and whimpering.
Something HUGE crushes in the roof.
FRANK screams and puts the car in DRIVE.
Outside, car is already in motion when scene starts, and we see only a black shape roll off the roof, and down the trunk and off-screen as the car speeds off. We watch several more seconds. Tail lights come on, and headlamps illuminate the road in the distance. We are alone in the darkness with a monster, and we can hear it growling.
Linger a moment on the sounds of the night... bugs, birds, slowly fading to silence.
