Part 1
Indy-Anna Bones is an archaeologist, adventurer, explorer, cryptozoologist, paranormal expert, and friend to pigeons.
She was walking in Manhattan one day, when she came upon a mystery.
She was already familiar with the Toynbee Idea.
She'd once herself found a tile near the TLA on South Street, Philadelphia.
This is supposedly the home of the mysterious Toynbee Tiler who has left his bizarre messages as far away as Chile.
The Tiler suggests that every human that has ever died could be resurrected on the planet Jupiter, where there is enough room for them to live in harmony. The Tiler seems to believe the US government is trying to kill him for his ideas.
The Toynbee Idea tiles have been appearing regularly since the 1980's, mostly along the East Coast of the United States.
Very quickly, Indy-Anna was discovering tiles at every intersection as she made her way through Midtown.
An interactive map on the Internet documented many tiles, but the photos on the site were not the tiles Indy-Anna was finding. Those had been lost to roadwork, but new tiles laid at every intersection.
In Herald Square, in sight of Macy's department store, Indy-Anna found a fresh tile.
As car tires and pedestrian traffic pound the tile into hot, soft asphalt, they are protected by a layer of tar paper.
Indy-Anna could not resist, she had to see the message.
She keeps a fork in her purse, just for situations like this.
And what better use can there be than uncovering secret messages?
In Midtown, no one pays attention when you are digging up the road with a utensil during rush hour.
The tar paper stuck fast, but she uncovered a few words.
This was an investigation that was going to take some time.
To be continued...
