EXT. GROCERY STORE. DAY.

Fade in on the parking lot of the BOONVILLE MARKET. A few cars are in marked spots, and a police SUV is parked on the curb.

DANNY approaches, walks past the SUV.

RANDY comes out before Danny can enter.

RANDY: Hey, Dan, what’s going on?

DANNY: Sorry I’m late, man...

RANDY: No, no, don’t worry about it.

DANNY: (skeptical) You sure?

RANDY: Yeah, come inside, we need to talk to you.

DANNY: (pausing) What’s up?

RANDY: Nothing, come on in.

INT. GROCERY STORE.

Employees and customers are watching as DANNY and RANDY enter.

CLOSEUP: DANNY is shocked.

DANNY: Uh... hi?

RANDY: Sheriff Holden is here, he wants to ask you a couple questions.

DANNY: About what?

RANDY: Let’s just go in back.

DANNY: Come on, man, talk to me.

RANDY: It’s probably best Sheriff Holden does the talking.

They walk through the store to the back office. SHERIFF HOLDEN is sitting at Randy’s desk. He is a tall, powerful man with a mustache.

HOLDEN: Danielle, how are you doing? Have a seat.

RANDY closes the door.

DANNY: (sitting) What’s going on?

HOLDEN: I understand you know Travis Stanton. Is that correct?

DANNY: Did something happen, Sheriff?

HOLDEN: The two of you went to the Social last night?

DANNY: We had a couple beers, yeah.

HOLDEN: Known him how long?

DANNY: I’m old enough to have a drink with who I want, all right?

HOLDEN: He got in a fight with Jesse Simpson?

DANNY: That what Jesse told you?

HOLDEN: That's what several people told me.

DANNY: Oh bullshit! Those guys jumped us! Frank was going to punch me!

HOLDEN: Maybe Stanton was jealous?

DANNY: Did something happen, because Frank and Jesse were both fine when I saw them!

RANDY: The Sheriff is asking you questions, Danny.

HOLDEN: Randy, would you mind if we spoke alone?

RANDY: Sure. Sure.
