Scene 3

INT. GROCERY STORE. DAY.

DANNY is stocking shelves.

TEAL  enters, takes a basket from a stack and walks to the back of the store. DANNY sees her and follows, picking at stock to remain inconspicuous.

TEAL  loads her baskets with every steak in the pile, considers the pork chops a moment, and loads them as well until her basket is overflowing.

TEAL goes to the checkout counter, pays, and exits.

RANDY comes out of the back room, sees the empty display of steaks.

RANDY: What the hell?! Again! (To Danny) Did you see this?

DANNY: She just left.

RANDY: You didn’t try to stop her?

DANNY: She paid. I didn’t think we were supposed to stop customers from making purchases.

RANDY: She didn’t leave anything for anyone else! That’s all the stock we have! I’ve got people bitching me up one side and down the other because they have to drive to Lee Center for their steaks, and this crazy bitch is buying up everything I have. How much meat can she eat? Did she seriously eat all of that last night?

DANNY: If she comes back, what kind of limits do you want me to set?

RANDY: Use your judgement. You got any of that?

RANDY exits. DANNY watches until he is gone, and turns to face NIKKI and CORRINE. They look angry.

DANNY: Hey. Nikki. I heard about Jess.

CORRINE: From who? Your weirdo friend that killed him?

NIKKI: (fighting tears) He’s not dead.

CORRINE: (putting an arm around her) He’s not dead. He’s not dead. (To Danny) What did you do? Where is he?

DANNY: I didn’t do anything. I don’t know anything. Seriously, Cor. I heard about it when Sheriff Holden told me this morning.

NIKKI: Frank said you were with that crazy fuck!

DANNY: We can’t do this here. You’re going to get me in even more trouble.

CORRINE: You think we give a shit if you get in trouble? I hope you and your crazy friend are swinging in the breeze!

RANDY comes out of the back.

RANDY: Girls! Girls, I know you’re upset, but you can’t be doing this in my store.

NIKKI: (screaming at Danny) She’s a murderer!

RANDY: Nikki, I talked to the Sheriff. He’s arrested the drifter, and he’d arrest Danielle too if he thought she was dangerous. I need to ask you girls to leave for the day, okay? Go home. Get some rest. Everything is going to be fine.

DANNY: He arrested Travis? For what?!

NIKKI breaks into tears. CORRINE leads her away. They exit.

RANDY glares at Danny a moment before exiting as well.

DANNY: Fuck this!

DANNY exits.
