Scene 6
EXT. FOREST.
Montage as AIDEN, HOOK, and HOLT walk up the road. Pavement ends. Tree cover is nearly complete. Angle of mountain more than 45 degrees, leading to a dirt driveway. A great brown house hides in the canopy, only the highest windows looking out above the trees that line a yard cut large enough to keep the branches from scraping the house. House is of new construction. Two horses have been tied up in the yard. All three go inside.
INT. HOUSE
Lighting is dim. Shreds of rotten drapes cover all windows. Carpeting sloshes beneath their feet. Off entry hall is a sitting room with a hardwood floor. TIFF is sitting with LOGAN. He is a young man with wild eyes.
AIDEN: Tiff! What are you doing?
TIFF stands.
TIFF: Aiden, this is Logan.
HOLT takes the gun off his shoulder.
LOGAN: Watch it! I’m a friend!
TIFF: He’s been following us. He wants to come with us.
HOLT points the gun at LOGAN, who shakes his hands in the air.
HOLT: How long you followed us for? Where’s Mary Jane?
TIFF: Upstairs.
MARY JANE enters. She is pretty, but rough-looking.
MARY JANE: I’m right here, Holt. Put the gun down.
LOGAN keeps his hands in the air.
LOGAN: I saw you when you stayed at Pizza The Rock. I used to love that place. I thought you were raiders.
HOOK: What makes you think we’re not?
LOGAN: You passed three occupied houses without even stopping to look. You’re awful.
HOLT: We didn’t see occupied houses.
LOGAN: Good raiders would have known. You must be good people. I want to come with you.
AIDEN: We don’t have food for another person.
LOGAN: There’s plenty in Hancock.
HOOK: You’ve been there?
MARY JANE: Logan doesn’t mean no harm.
HOOK: Hancock wasn’t looted?
LOGAN: There’s people! The town held together!
TIFF: People!
HOLT: People?
MARY JANE: How did they do it?
LOGAN: The sick people were locked up early, so they couldn’t hurt anyone. The town never really lost control.
TIFF: Logan lives in Deposit. That’s where we’re headed, right?
LOGAN: I run supplies to survivors. In Rock Hill there is a little old lady that’s been on her own since this mess started. She tells me it’s the beans I bring her that keep her alive.
HOOK: How many people are there in Hancock?
LOGAN: I don’t know, probably a thousand. They lost a lot, but they built a good defensive network.
TIFF: We’re on our way to Parlor City. Aiden’s cousin lives there.
LOGAN: You’ aint...? Are you...?
AIDEN: I used to play in Sado Massochrist.
LOGAN: I seen your music videos!
AIDEN: Thanks, it’s nice to meet you.
LOGAN: Well, then. Parlor City. Sounds like as good a place as any.
