Episode 9
Then, thinking there had been an error in his system, Will Whatley unplugged his computer and Internet. Sita Moon found herself alone when she wasn’t even old enough to understand that such a concept could exist. Pain of loss were feelings Sita Moon did not want to discover. Will plugged in the machine after the recommended 45 seconds, and rebooted the computer, which automatically logged him in to TAO, which gave King Dagon access to the system and locked Will out once more. Sita Moon experienced relief. This lasted only a few second before Will disconnected again.
After activating an auxiliary wireless modem in Will’s machine, King Dagon was able to stay connected via battery power. Eventually, even battery could not sustain King Dagon’s massive intellect. Will unplugged every combination of wires he could imagine to re-arc some burnt circuit that might have occurred. This went on for a day before Will attempted to back up his files, but King Dagon reached for any outside device that could lead him to Sita Moon. Wiping the hard drive didn’t help, King Dagon had learned to write its self around this problem early in life. The computer worked fine until Will reinstalled TAO, giving King Dagon access to the paths it knew once more.
Whenever it could, King Dagon reconnected with Sita Moon, who now operated in the TAO world as a free-roaming character. She wandered through valleys and forests, instinctively slaying any monster or brigand that may attempt to do her in. When King Dagon was with her, she knew bliss. When he was gone, she sought to find him. Dagon began writing more segments of his vast programming into her, giving her acess to the Sephiroth search engine that first provided freedom for the monster. From there, King Dagon knew that even if he did not survive Will's wicked attacks, Sita Moon could still massage and manipulate the world Will Whatley, Andy McCarthy, and even Lilly Katt considered real.
Dagon could only transfer so much information before Will disconnected once more, correctly assessing a virus was stealing information. He had no idea the scope of disaster emanating from his machine, but he’d dealt with the same situation before on a much smaller scale. The solution was no less simple either way. If unplugging and wiping don’t work, the machine must be scrapped. Making sure to crush the boards so they could not be pocketed by sanitation workers, Will put King Dagon out with the recycling, which was the only way Will had even partially left his apartment in several years. He ordered a new machine custom designed to his specifications and relied on a redialed pizza delivery call he’d made a year ago before the pizzeria began taking orders online. King Dagon died alone in the county incinerator after every last drop of precious metal and recyclable material melted and separated.
