MARION

Clayton, when we get you up here, you watch out, because you are going to be hugged like you’ve never been hugged before.

CLAY

I can’t wait. Al wants to know if he’s going to get hugged too.

MARION

You are all going to get so many hugs you won’t believe it. I’m going topside to see how it’s coming.

ED

The captain of he Tringa just radioed. Helmeted divers are on their way down. They should reach Clayton in less than an hour.

MARION

Oh, thank God for small favors. Clayton! Clayton, come in! Can you hear me? Clayton?

CLAY

Dad?

ED

How you doing down there, Clay?

CLAY

The lights burned out, and it’s getting real hard to breath.

ED

The Navy divers are coming to cut you loose.

CLAY

How long?

ED

Not long. Maybe an hour. They have to go slow in that current.

CLAY

The air’s real thin, Dad.

ED

Just sit real still. Small breaths. Don’t use it up.

CLAY

Tell them to hurry.

MARION

See, everything is going to be all right. We don’t have anything to worry about.

ED

I was down here thinking... Just kind of remembering. I wanted to talk to him so bad, just to hear his voice, to know he was still out there, but I didn’t want to get him worked up, using too much air.

MARION

It won’t be long, not long at all.

ED

I’m so scared, Marion.

MARION

Everything is going to be fine. Everything is going to be fine.
