Man-In-Sea

ED
Hey, Clayton, I didn’t hear you come in.

CLAY
Uncle Theron just got here.

ED
Look at this. I’ve been working on the piano.

CLAY
Wow, that sounds great!

ED
This was the first one my Dad ever let me install by myself. Remember that day we pulled it out?

CLAY
Of course I do. I thought they were going to use that wrecking ball to get us out.

ED
I doubt your mother will let me keep it much longer if I don’t get it going. She’s got her eye on a brand new armoire, and I’ve got a bad feeling I know where she plans to put it. It’s a beauty though, isn’t it?

CLAY
It sure is.

ED
Nothing sounded like a Link. We were putting out six a week. That doesn’t sound like much with the machines they got today, but these were precise musical instruments, you can’t create that with a machine.

CLAY
Mom said she’s just about ready to head out.

ED
Oh, good. I was afraid we wouldn’t have time to eat. Father and son graduate college the same day. Isn’t that something?

CLAY
Yeah, it’s something.

ED
I was hoping I’d graduate with your brother, but this is just as good. At least both my boys are smarter than their old man.

CLAY
I still wish you could be there to see me. I mean... you know... yours is only an honorary degree.

ED
It’s rude, isn’t it? You’d think these schools would coordinate their ceremonies a little better.

CLAY
Yeah.

ED
I’m damn proud of you, Clayton. You know that, don’t you?

CLAY
Sure.

ED
All right, tell your mother I’m almost ready for the party.
