Two Winters Past

EXT. LEMBEK HOUSE. EVENING.

POPPER, VALENTINE, and DOAN are running toward the house. A body lays in the yard. It is an old man with thinning white hair. A rifle lays by his hand. DOAN stops at the body, frantic.

DOAN: Uncle Kenny!

POPPER picks up the rifle.

POPPER: We can mourn if we get through this.

POPPER pulls DOAN away from the body.

VALENTINE: The house!

The monsters have broken in one of the doors and are rushing inside. Several family members jump out windows and try to run, but are quickly overtaken. POPPER stops to shoot. DOAN continues running.

VALENTINE: We can’t save them!

DOAN: That’s my family!

VALENTINE: Popper! Help!

VALENTINE tackles DOAN and drags him down. DOAN elbows VALENTINE in the face and breaks free.

POPPER: Doan! The Cooleys!

A gunshout sounds and DOAN falls. VALENTINE dives over the top of him.

VALENTINE: Are you alive?

DOAN: My arm!

VALENTINE: Popper!

POPPER shoves Valentine aside, drags DOAN to his feet.

POPPER: Help me!

VALENTINE helps POPPER carry DOAN to the tree line.

Monsters fill the house. There is no sign of resistance.

DOAN: We gotta save them...

POPPER: There’s nothing to save.

VALENTINE: We can’t stay here. We need to get him somewhere to treat his wound. The bone is shattered. He might lose the arm.

DOAN: (weak) You can’t...

POPPER: He’s not gonna make it.

VALENTINE: Don’t fucking talk like that! We’re the only chance he’s got.

DOAN: Take me back, Pop. Kyle's got to know about Hazard.

POPPER: He’s losing too much blood.

DOAN stumbles. VALENTINE steadies him.

CHLOE ISIS (OS): Popper!

CHLOE ISIS runs to them. She has flaming red hair. She helps DOAN to the ground.

POPPER: Chloe? You’re alive!

CHLOE ISIS: Get me a branch, something sturdy. We need a tourniquet.
