Cut Scene 15
The CybR boots vaulted Kilgore clear as Duke charged. Spiral stairs circled the wall to a partially collapsed floor above them. Duke was fast, but could not seem to control his motion when he surged forward, relying on walls to stop him. He struck hard enough to sustain damage, but it didn’t slow Duke.
Kilgore ran up the stairs, narrowly avoiding Duke’s next attack. Duke crashed into the wall, shaking the structure, but not breaking the rock. Kilgore had the jump, he was ready to toss his Void Bomb. Even if he missed, the remaining void would block passage through the stairs.
Kilgore waited. Duke did not come up the stairs.
The Sephiroth showed him still on the floor below, moving cautiously near the stairs. He knew he was walking into an ambush. Void Bombs had a small area of effect, and if Kilgore didn’t score a direct hit, he would need to hope that Duke blundered into the void, or could be thrown. This was the reason Kilgore never used grenades.

The hole in the tower gave Kilgore an idea. The breach was big enough for the heavy CybR suit to clear, and it filled the floor with daylight. A Void Bomb wouldn’t do much, but the tower was broken so bad it was not likely to survive the blast of a Concussion Bomb, they were were designed for opening holes in space ships. Kilgore was shielded from the damage from his own weapons, but that wouldn’t stop falling rocks from crushing him to death. If Kilgore tossed the grenade, he had to be absolutely sure he could jump at that hole before the tower came down on his head.
Would Kilgore be better served to jump out the hole and run? Duke had proved to be tremendously fast, and a tenacious hunter. There was no reason to think he would not pick up the chase immediately. If Kilgore did not incapacitate Duke, if not kill him, it would be Kilgore that suffered later. Without a blaster, Kilgore had no hope of bringing down the knight.
Kilgore switched to his Concussion Bomb. Sephiroth showed Duke directly beneath. The grenade could be pitched to it the wall downstairs and bounce back. However, that meant Kilgore needed to be very clear of the floor that would atomize beneath him.
Kilgore pitched and ran.
Kilgore pitched and ran.
