Two Winters Past

EXT. WOODS. MORNING.

Wide angle shot over the woods. Fog is burning off. The air is gauzy. We see farms and hay fields. In the distance is a four lane highway running the side of a mountain. Cars and big rigs sit motionless in heaps that collected when the electricity disappeared at 90 miles an hour. Zoom out to reveal VALENTINE and CHLOE ISIS sit on a hillock, hidden by young trees. They are already talking.

CHLOE ISIS: Popper is already dead.

VALENTINE: You want to take that chance?

CHLOE ISIS: Popper was a little better than the rest. He asked to be left behind. He did that so we can survive.

VALENTINE: They are going to torture him!

CHLOE ISIS: They won’t have long. Half his leg was blown off.  I’m headed west.

VALENTINE: East!

CHLOE ISIS: Not a chance.

VALENTINE: I know a place for supplies right off 81, just a few hours down the highway.

CHLOE ISIS: Does that highway cross the river?

VALENTINE: A couple times.

CHLOE ISIS: Near the Confluence?

VALENTINE: The what?

CHLOE ISIS: Where the rivers meet.

VALENTINE: Oh yeah! There’s a park!

CHLOE ISIS: Does the highway go past it?

VALENTINE: There is a highway nearby.

CHLOE ISIS: I want to go to the confluence.

VALENTINE: It’s way off the main route.

CHLOE ISIS: Did Chris talk to you about the rivers?

VALENTINE: I think he mentioned them.

CHLOE ISIS: Let’s go see if Popper is alive.
