Two Winters Past

EXT. FOREST CLEARING. DAY.

CHLOE ISIS hikes out of the clearing. VALENTINE follows.

Montage as they walk.

CHLOE ISIS: You said Chris saved you?

VALENTINE: A few times.

CHLOE ISIS: How did it happen?

VALENTINE hesitates.

VALENTINE: Someone went outside for a cigarette at night. A couple monsters were nearby and smelled it. A few more heard those banging on the metal wall. We didn’t know how many there were until one of the doors was broken. We thought we could be quiet until they went away. I was with Chris and some others. We got separated from the group. The other guys wanted to get the guns, I wanted to go for the roof. The factory was huge though, and the monsters had already broken down the doors in places far from where we lived. They found us near the loading docks. Chris got us up to the third floor, but he’d broken his leg. We couldn't carry him.

VALENTINE looks at the gun until CHLOE ISIS realizes the implication.

VALENTINE: He did it himself. He asked me, but I couldn’t. He had two bullets left after that, and I did use those.

CHLOE ISIS is crying.

VALENTINE: He was your...

CHLOE ISIS: He was my professor... before all this.

VALENTINE: I’m sorry.

CHLOE ISIS: He was going to find out what caused this, and he was going to turn it around.

VALENTINE: You can’t turn this around.
