Two Winters Past

EXT. FOREST. DAY.

CHLOE ISIS and VALENTINE are walking.

REMMY (OS): (Weak) Pretty lady, I hear you!

CHLOE ISIS and VALENTINE stop walking.

VALENTINE: He sounds half dead.

CHLOE ISIS: You got him pretty deep. That shoulder has to be hurting.

REMMY (OS): This mean you’re coming to spend the night in your nice warm bed?

CHLOE ISIS: If they really have Popper, there has to be at least three, Remmy Cooley isn’t carrying anyone.

VALENTINE: Be quiet. Just because they can hear us doesn’t mean they can see us.

REMMY (OS): I promise to make some noise to keep you on track.

VALENTINE: They don’t know where we are.

CHLOE ISIS: We should be going in the other direction.

POPPER screams OS, followed by laughter.

VALENTINE: See! He’s alive!

CHLOE ISIS: There are two of us with no bullets. How are we supposed to perform a rescue against these rednecks?

VALENTINE: I’ll think of something.

CHLOE ISIS: You’ll get us killed for sure.

They hike.

Enter a small clearing. Trees have grown a complete canopy, providing little light, but there is an open area. POPPER hangs from a branch across the clearing.

POPPER's wrists have been tied over the branch. A crude tourniquet has been tied around his thigh above the wound. CHLOE ISIS runs to help him.

CHLOE ISIS: Popper!

POPPER struggles to open one eye.
