Two Winters Past

INT. ABANDONED HOUSE. AFTERNOON.

CLOSEUP: VALENTINE, disbelief registers on his face.

VALENTINE: You can end this?

CHLOE ISIS: What do you know about that?

MOLAY: I’m a member of an ancient order. A warrior-priest, you might say.

VALENTINE: Is that why you carry a sword?

MOLAY: I took fencing when I was a kid. It’s not the same as fighting with a real sword, but it’s a good primer.

CHLOE ISIS retrieves her empty rifle and slings it over her shoulder.

CHLOE ISIS: More reliable than a gun.

MOLAY: You’re one to talk.

VALENTINE: That gun has been empty for a week.

MOLAY: Why carry it?

VALENTINE: We’ll find something to put in it.

MOLAY: I know a weapon that can put fear in their heart again. It’s called the Long Chant.

CHLOE ISIS: It’s a prayer?

MOLAY: A curse, actually. Something to drive these creatures back to their own existence. The Long Chant must be...

VALENTINE: Wait, from Lovecraft? That’s a story!

MOLAY: You know of it. Good. Lovecraft was once a high priest in my order. He revealed much more than he was given credit, but he provided us with a means to shut the door.

CHLOE ISIS: That stuff isn’t real, is it?

VALENTINE: No.

MOLAY: It is. We need to go to the Confluence at the heart of the city.

CHLOE ISIS: The Confluence! I told you!

VALENTINE: Chris was right.

CHLOE ISIS: You know all the chants and rituals?

MOLAY: I’ve studied them for years.

CHLOE ISIS: Will it work? Will it turn those monsters into people again?

MOLAY: I don’t know at all.

CHANGO enters with a shotgun leveled on them.

CHANGO: Peek-a-boo. I knew you’d try to hide in the first house you came to.
