Two Winters Past

Scene 8

EXT. VALLEY.

The man advancing is HELLER. He wears black clothes and has an axe and a shotgun slung across his back. He remains too far in the distance to see. COOLEY 1&2 run toward him brandishing hatchets.

COLE: We don’t have time for this.

ZACH: Remmy knows how to burn a house.

COLE: He ain’t never burned a house with twenty guns pointed at him. What if Grant screws up?

ZACH: Your cousin knows the plan.

Helicopter shot circling COOLEY 1&2 as they reach HELLER and menace him. He offers no resistance and puts up his hands.

COLE: If they shoot him after he surrenders, I will have them both hung.

ZACH: Would it be kingly to hang them?

COLE: Remmy knows I don’t want to be a king.

ZACH: Why? You two bin making lists?

COLE: Ask him.

ZACH grins.

ZACH: We family, Cole, and I see you ain’t going out on his raids neither.

COLE: The Lembeks ain’t done nothing to us.

ZACH: Sending a spy? That ain’t aggression? They got canned food and nuts squirreled away, and that exactly what we need.

COLE: We didn’t need to be enemies.

ZACH: They ain’t going to be our enemies tomorrow.
