AIN SOPH, Part 8

Episode 1

The orcs were not here for Morgoth, Morgoth was here for the orcs. Morgoth gave them a purpose. Morgoth brought meaning to the orcs. His arrival was sublime, no different than any other creature in the game. Morgoth’s white silhouette flashed three times and became solid.

Morgoth’s two-handed stone axe was raised over his head, heavily stained with the blood of his victims. He wore little armor beyond a horned helmet and heavy iron shoulder pads. Morgoth needed little else. His hide was so dark green it was almost black and his thick scars made his hide nearly impenetrable to most normal weapons. Morgoth had a mouth of jagged teeth that looked more like tusks, and his eyes were yellow with murder. Morgoth roared and shook the axe over his head.

Orcs don’t normally stray far from other orcs. As soon as Morgoth came within two blocks of another orc, that orc came under his command, and every other orc within two blocks of that orc came under Morgoth’s command as well. Every orc within two blocks of those orcs came under his command and so forth. From Duke’s position, Andy was able to witness the wave pass through the crowd as orcs went from individual wanderers loosely following the closest orc or goblin, to a regimented army waiting for command. All that army needed was something to attack.

StarScream had concealed herself in a tunnel she dug in the soft earth of the riverbank, concealed by fluffs of dry brush. Orcs were too large to amble into a hole the size of StarScream’s unless they knew something to fight was nearby. A goblin, on the other hand, had no problem. Lilly fried the first with the laser cannon mounted in StarScream's mouth. Not before the goblin raised the alarm. There were plenty of orcs standing around to take notice of a screaming goblin. While there was little chance of an orc wandering into her hole, orcs were happy to crawl in pursuit of something to beat on.
