Two Winters Past

EXT. CASTLE. MIDDAY.

GAMBLE and BLYTHE are walking. For the first time we see detail on the yard of the Castle. Housing is made from mobile homes, pre-fab shed provide armories and storage.

GAMBLE: I apologize for not saluting, Sir.

BLYTHE: Don’t sweat it.

The clinic is a double-wide trailer on a cinder-block foundation. It is the most permanent building we have seen so far.

INT. SPRAGUE’S OFFICE. DAY.

SPRAGUE sits at the desk. He looks up when BLYTHE enters.

BLYTHE: Hey, you called me?

SPRAGUE: (shrugs) I can’t get close to your friend. She threw her food, but she drank some water. She’s quiet now, I’m going to try again in an hour or so.

BLYTHE: That girl went through hell.

SPRAGUE: You didn’t get a look at her?

BLYTHE: The girl was locked in the bathroom, whole house was covered in blood.

SPRAGUE: Well, I can’t get close to her, and I’m not letting her into the general population if I can’t.

BLYTHE: She told me it was a worm. The old lady broke open the boyfriend’s skull and pulled out a worm.

SPRAGUE: Did you see it?

BLYTHE: No, I…

SPRAGUE: I’m almost certain the worm is the cause. I’ve found them as well. They chew up into the brainstem. It must be how they take control of the body.

BLYTHE: Can it be reversed?

SPRAGUE: Oh no. Once you are infected, it’s all over. If that girl has been bit, Turner will insist she’s put down.

BLYTHE: Maybe I can try talking to her. She trusted me to save her once.

SPRAGUE: Be my guest.
