Dollars Per Hour Chapter 40

“Hi, can I speak with Brent please?’

    “This is Brent.”

“This is Brent? Hi, Sir, my name is Rubin, and I’m calling from SpectraCom about a balance on your account of $35.64. I was calling to see if you’d like to take care of that by check or credit card over the phone...”

    “Why are you calling me?”

“Well, Sir, as I stated, you have a past due balance...”

“I told you people not to call here.”

“Well, unfortunately, Sir, the only way you get the luxury of deciding whether or not you get a collection call is if all of your bills are paid for by their due date each and every month.”

“Tell your supervisor they will get their money!”

“Yes, but what you don’t seem to understand is that we want to know when.”

“I don’t have to tell you that!”

“Then we will continue to call you.”

    “Don’t call here again!” (Click)

    (Sigh)(phone dialing)

    “Hello?”

    “Hello, Brent?”

    “Yes?”

“Rubin from SpectraCom again. We seem to have gotten disconnected. I figured I’d better call back. Now, when was this bill going to be taken care of?”

“I told you not to call here!”

“And I told you that you don’t get to decide that!”

“You son of a bitch! Put your supervisor on the phone right now!”

“No, Mr. Reed, I want to talk to your supervisor!”

“Are you refusing me a supervisor?”

    “Are ya’ deaf?”

    “Goodbye!”

    “Don’t hang up on me!”

    (Click)

    (Phone dialing)

    “Hello?”

“Brent, what did you think I was going to do? I already called you back once. Did you think I would be afraid to do it a second time?”

“Who the fuck do you think you are?! You’re lucky you’re not standing in front of me right now!”

“I have your address. I could be in there in a couple hours.”
