AIN SOPH, Part 8

Episode 6

Duke was sneaking between the trees and underbrush at the crest of the riverbank. The appearance of Sita Moon changed everything. She was the most wanted MERC in TAO Fantasy. He’d met her only once on the frozen plain where they faced down King Dagon together. Andy had no idea his accidental creation, King Dagon, was living inside the illegal dagger Sita Moon had used to kill the monster. Sita Moon had been gone for a long time, and now that she was back, Duke was going to make sure she went away forever.

Sita Moon was doing damage, but it didn't seem to have any affect on the monster that stomped and roared and chomped and tried to get his soldiers do the fighting for him. Will Whatley was already getting bored with the fight. Not much separated Morgoth from any other simple monster in the game but his excessive hit points and toughness. Other than that, he had only a few attacks and abilities that were all easily avoided. Will was keeping control of the battle using one finger to press three buttons in a combo of attacks and parries that were keeping Morgoth at bay and automatically slicing down any orc or goblin that wandered too close to the fighting. Even if Sita Moon couldn't score the under-chin attack, Will could keep this up without taking damage until Morgoth was dead.

That could take all night though, and Will wanted to impress Lilly Katt. Sita Moon needed to get this over quickly. Will equipped the flaming scimitar Sita Moon had won from a rebel angel in the "Quest for Broken Eden" adventure that came out shortly before he quit TAO Fantasy. Sita Moon drove Morgoth with the flaming blade in an attempt to cast a spell, but Morgoth roared for his orcs to attack. Will frantically pressed buttons on his keyboard, not expecting success, but still managed to ignite the blade.

No armor could defend against an angel's sword, but it was too slow, and didn’t have any other abilities. The only attacks were a sideways swing and an overhead chop, and the animation was long. Will assumed the reasoning behind this was only a high level player could win such a weapon, and the only way to keep those players from using it unfairly all the time was to make the weapon boring. Sita Moon was fast enough that she could do more damage against even a heavily armored opponent in the time it took to attack with the flaming sword. Against Morgoth, she needed something special.
